Carpenter Bee Control

Slightly more than one inch in length, these chubby little bees can cause annoying damage to fences, patio covers, rafter tails, and many other areas around your home and garden. The female bee chews a tunnel parallel to the wood grain to excavate nesting space. Collecting pollen and nectar to make "bee bread," the female deposits the bread in the end of the tunnel, and lays a single egg. The larva consumes all the food and pupates in the tunnel into the next generation of bees.

This process can repeat in the same area year after year, eventually causing structural weakening of the wood. While the adult bee is not aggressive, it can sting if accidentally squeezed. Carpenter bee control and treatment involves treating the tunnels and sealing the holes from re-entry.
